Plan History
The Pile Drivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock & Wharf Builders Health Benefits Plan was established on November 1, 1970 to provide group life and health benefits for eligible members and their covered dependents. The Pile Drivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock & Wharf Builders Pension Plan was established effective October 1, 1970, to provide retirement pensions to eligible members.
Plan Management and Operation
The Pile Drivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock & Wharf Builders Health Benefits and Pension Plans are funded under the terms of collective agreements negotiated between Pile Drivers, Divers, Bridge, Dock & Wharf Builders Local 2404 (UBCJ of A) and various employers in the marine construction industry.
Board of Trustees
The Plans and related Trust Funds are each managed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the Union. The Trustees are responsible for managing the funds and establishing the benefit levels and other Plan provisions, based on available funding and consistent with applicable legislation and the terms of the collective agreements. The current Trustees for both the Health Benefits Plan and Pension Plan are:
- Darrell Hawk (Chairman) (term expires Sept. 30, 2024)
- Eric Joyal (term expires Sept. 30, 2027)
- Gavin Perry (term expires Sept. 30, 2027)
- Mike Honeyman (term expires Sept. 30, 2024)
- Jordan Hanson (term expires Sept. 30, 2024)
- Kurt Kashuba (term expires Sept.30, 2027)
Administration
The Trustees appoint and work with a team of professional advisors, including administrators, investment managers, investment consultants, actuaries and lawyers. The Trustees have appointed D.A. Townley (a division of Pacific Blue Cross) as our Administrator to handle day to day administration of both the Health Benefits and Pension Plans. The Administrator operates under the overall direction of the Trustees.
